Carina DeVera is an animal advocate, photographer, and writer. She lives in San Francisco with her husband and small herd of rescued guinea pigs.

Shelter Dogs features a handful of dogs in an urban shelter system. The pictures were taken over a period of two years. All dogs shown in this collection ultimately got adopted by loving families, but millions of abandoned pets in America’s shelters are not so lucky.
